If you want to get the best sound quality from your Bluetooth headphones, you’ll want to make sure you’re using the LDAC codec. LDAC allows you to stream high-resolution audio wirelessly — giving you clearer, richer, and more detailed sound compared to standard Bluetooth codecs like SBC or AAC.
In this guide, I’ll show you how to manually enable the LDAC codec on your headphones and your playback devices (like your smartphone or tablet) so you can enjoy that hi-res audio goodness right away.
What Is LDAC and Why It Matters
LDAC is a Bluetooth audio codec developed by Sony.
Unlike regular Bluetooth, which compresses audio heavily, LDAC can transmit up to 990 kbps — which means less compression and higher sound quality.
It’s especially noticeable when listening to lossless audio files or streaming services that support Hi-Res Audio. The difference? Cleaner vocals, more depth in instruments, and better overall clarity.
Step 1: Check If Your Devices Support LDAC
For this tutorial, I’m using:
-
🎧 Edifier W830NB Headphones
-
📱 Google Pixel Phone
-
💻 Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2025
All of these devices are LDAC-compatible. You can usually find this information in your product’s spec sheet or Bluetooth settings.
Step 2: Enable LDAC on Your Headphones
Some headphones automatically use LDAC when it’s available, but others require you to manually enable it through a companion app.
For example, the Edifier W830NB uses the Edifier ConneX app (Android). Here’s how to enable LDAC on it:
-
Download and install the Edifier ConneX app.
-
Pair your headphones via Bluetooth.
-
Open the app and go to Settings → HD Audio Codec.
-
Choose the highest sampling rate available (usually 96kHz).
-
Tap Save to apply the changes.
⚠️ Note: Your headphones may reset during this process. If they do, just unpair and re-pair them like you would when connecting a new device.
Step 3: Enable LDAC on Your Playback Device
Some Android phones (like the Google Pixel series) automatically switch to LDAC when supported headphones are connected.
However, on other devices (like the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2025), you may need to manually enable LDAC:
-
Go to your Bluetooth Settings.
-
Tap your connected headphones under Device Details.
-
Look for the option to enable LDAC codec or High-Quality Audio and toggle it on.
💡 Pro Tip: You can also go into Developer Options → Bluetooth Audio Codec and manually select LDAC for even more control.
Step 4: Test Your Connection
Once you’ve enabled LDAC on both devices:
-
Play a high-resolution track from Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal.
-
You should notice richer sound and improved clarity.
-
Some phones even show “LDAC” in Bluetooth settings or the status bar when it’s active.
Congrats — you’re now streaming in high-resolution audio!
Final Thoughts
Activating LDAC is a quick and effective way to boost your wireless sound quality. Even if you’re not an audiophile, you’ll notice the difference — especially with good headphones and quality audio sources.
So go ahead and try it out. You might be surprised at how much better your favorite songs sound when your Bluetooth connection isn’t holding them back.
